About the 10th Know India Programme
 
Know India Programmes are organized by the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs, Government of India with the objective of familiarizing Indian Diaspora youth, in the age group of 18-26 years, with developments and achievements made by the country and bringing them closer to the land of their ancestors. The Programme provides a unique forum for students and young professionals of Indian origin to visit India, share their views, expectations and experiences, and to bond closely with contemporary India.
                   
The 10th Know India Program will involve a stay of three weeks in India for 34 participants from 13 countries, that is, Australia, Canada, Fiji, Israel, Malaysia, Mauritius, Reunion Islands, South Africa, Suriname, Sweden, Trinidad & Tobago, U.K. and U.S.A.

The first leg of the Program in Delhi would begin with a sight-seeing of the historic city of Old Delhi and New Delhi, which has quite an impressive and long-standing history over the last 700 years, with monuments from the Tughlak, Mughal and British period still being the landmark attractions drawing tourists from over the world. The participants would have the unique privilege of meeting and interacting with the Chief Election Commissioner of India, which is one of the most important Constitutional posts in the Country known to be the ‘World’s largest Democracy’. The participants also visit the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Campus, go for site visits to leading Industries and Healthcare Institutions, and also experience the famous Yoga and Meditation practices of India. Alongside, they interact with the Hon’ble Minister of Overseas Indian Affairs, Shri Vayalar Ravi, and visit the Confederation of Indian Industry for presentations on India’s Trade, Economy and Industry.

The participants then are taken to Agra – the land famous for the ‘Taj Mahal’ – known as ‘one of the 7 Wonders of the World’. The next 10 days are spent across the ‘Heartland of India’ – Madhya Pradesh - and its important cultural and traditional contribution to the Heritage of India and to India of the Modern Age. The participants visit the famous Forts and Palaces of Gwalior, the Shivpuri National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary, the prestigious Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Campus at Indore, the famous Sanchi Stupa at Bhopal from the times of Emperor Ashoka the Great, great Temples at the centuries old City of Ujjain, and a few leading Industries of the State at Indore. An important learning component  in this part of the Program would be to witness the ‘Working of Democracy at the Grassroots’, planning and village administration process through the Gram Panchayats, Empowerment of Women and Youth in Rural areas, and seeing the Vocational Training Programs which provide alternate employment opportunities in the Rural landscape. 

A 2 day visit to Bangalore – known as the ‘Garden City of India’ and ‘Asia's Silicon Valley’ as the leading hub of IT companies and Software Development Centres, follows on the way to the Final leg of the Program in Chennai across 5 days. In Chennai, the participants visit some of the most advanced industries and also visit the centuries old and fascinating Temples of Mahabalipuram. Chennai also is the city for the next year’s Pravasi Bharatiya Divas – the flagship event of the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs. The participants attend the full Program spread over 3 days, which is the premier business meeting of the most influential Overseas Indians from around the world. The participants have the opportunity to interact with over 1500 Delegates from across 50 countries, and listen to the influential thoughts and ideas of over 100 Speakers from both India and Overseas Countries, along with the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India and the Hon’ble President of India who will address the delegates at the Summit as well.
